LATEST NEWS ON THE FLOODING IN THE NETHERLANDS


General report, link to latest news at the bottom of this page Over 200,000 people have been evacuated because of risks of waterfloods in the Netherlands. Although the water level is dropping now, the danger of dyke breaches has not passed.

The national government is now in charge of the evacuation. Roads are closed and the army is checking homes for people who stayed behind, they are also guarding the affected areas to prevent looting.

So far three people have died.

The public is being informed by the media and public and local authorities. Special telephone numbers are available for every region. These phone numbers are published in the local media.

The national telecommunications company: PTT-Telecom has advised not to make telephone calls to the endangered area's, unless absolutely necessary, in order to prevent overloadeded telephone networks. An extra communications network between the crisis centers has been set up.
